Sarah received her Bachelor of Science degree in Birth through Kindergarten from Western Carolina University in 2005. She also has a minor in Special Education of young children. She comes to us with experience in Autism and Cerebral Palsy. Over the past 4 years, Sarah has provided services in daycare and home-based services with young children.
Kim joined our team in July ’07. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, concentrating in Social Welfare, from UNC-Asheville in 2001. She is currently enrolled in graduate studies for Communication Sciences and Disorders through East Carolina University’s distance education program. She has extensive experience in working with teenagers, adults and families in the areas of crisis intervention and education. Kim speaks Spanish and has volunteered with various projects that serve children abroad. Kim is excited about the opportunity to apply her enthusiasm and skills to serving children and families.
She received her Bachelor’s degree in Health Education from Kent State University in 2002. She worked as the Assistant Director for Kindercare Child Development Center while living lived in St. Louis, Missouri. She comes to us with several years experience working with infants and toddlers and has a special interest in working with premature infants and their families. Dana joined our team in October 2006.
Margaret received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. She worked as an Early Interventionist for three years in Texas before moving to Asheville. She speaks Spanish and has a certificate in American Sign Language Studies. She enjoys using sign language with children to facilitate their communication and relationships with caregivers. Margaret has a wide range of experience working with children ages birth to three through her work in Early Intervention. She joined our team in October 2007.
is a native of Haywood County. She worked at Amos Cottage Rehab Hospital which is affiliated with Wake Forest University Medical Center with children with special needs for 30 years in Music Therapy. She worked individually and in groups on a multi-disciplinary team to provide therapeutic environment for children with Autism and a variety of severe behavioral disorders. She is a Member of American Association of Music Therapists, Board Certified with National Certification Board of Music Therapists. She is currently working toward her NC Infant Toddler Family Specialists Certification and has been with CPT since October 2008.
received her Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders in May of 2008. Alison completed additional coursework on Infant Development and Curriculum, Environments for Young Children, and Family Systems. Alison is currently enrolled in Graduate Studies at Western Carolina University working toward her Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology. Ali was inspired to become a speech-language pathologist because of her brother who has special needs. She has a personal perspective and understanding of children with special needs, and how the entire family system can be affected. Alison assisted at CPT office from May 2007, and began providing CBRS in May of 2008. She is working toward her NC Infant Toddler Family Specialists-Certification.
joined Carolina Pediatric Therapy in October of 2008. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development and Family Studies and an M.S. in Community Counseling. She has North Carolina Birth - Kindergarten Teaching Licensure and North Carolina School Counseling License. She has been working with young children and families in many different professional roles for 9 years. As a licensed teacher, she worked for 5 years as a lead teacher in head start and kindergarten classrooms. After teaching in the classroom setting, she began working as a counselor in a community agency, and then as the school counselor at an elementary school. Her philosophy includes working with the family as a whole and building on the strengths of family members in order to help children. She has experience with children who display behavior challenges, as well as, those who are affected by a variety of social, emotional, and physical challenges.
joined Carolina Peds team in June of 2008. For the past 11 years, Frances’ experience includes working with children ages birth to three with varying disabilities through Early Headstart Program. Her skills include developing IFSP's with community partners, implementing and individualizing children’s goals into the classroom lesson plans. Frances is also Parents-as-Teachers educator.
joined the Carolina Peds team in September of 2008. She is currently working toward North Carolina Infant Toddler Family Specialists-Certification. She was a Special Education teacher for 3 years. She has worked as an Applied Behavioral Therapist (ABA) for teaching children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, has worked in a group home for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder which was based on the TEACCH method. Has received training at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind where she learned strategies for working with children with vision difficulties, and worked as an Early Interventionist and Service Coordinator for families of children with developmental delays in South Carolina. Alexis is a parent of 2 toddlers, one of which has received early intervention services, therefore, she brings a unique parent perspective to her work with children with Special Needs.
