The Tomatis Method of auditory stimulation is designed to re-awaken the ear’s natural ability to listen, and ultimately, to stimulate the brain’s desire to communicate.
The Tomatis® Method of auditory stimulation is designed to re-awaken the ear’s natural ability to listen, and ultimately, to stimulate the brain’s desire to communicate. Tomatis® listening therapy takes place through a device called the Electronic Ear. The Tomatis® Method was developed by French ear, nose and throat physician Dr. Alfred Tomatis. The equipment used consists of special headphones, a microphone, a vibrator designed to conduct sound waves to the bones of the body, and the tools that the Tomatis® practitioner uses to develop specific programs for each child.
Stimulate the brain’s desire to communicate.
The specialized Tomatis® listening test is administered to determine whether your child might benefit from the method. The Tomatis® Method is an intensive model of therapy, combined with fine motor activities, audio-vocal training, gross motor activities, tactile stimulation, and other sensory integration techniques. This is a non-invasive therapy that integrates multiple body systems to help them work together. Tomatis® therapy sessions usually take place daily for several weeks, with breaks in between. Your therapist will discuss the length and duration of your child’s treatment when you come in to consult with us.
If you have a child with autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing disorders, ADD/ADHD, other learning disabilities and dyslexia, or speech/language difficulties, you may want to consider Tomatis® Listening Therapy as part of their educational and therapeutic program. Tomatis® therapy has been shown to help with difficulties ranging from limited attention span to vestibular issues to auditory processing and more.
