If a child's speech-language difficulties are not assessed and treated early in their development, these difficulties could become more severe as they get older. As a result, they may also struggle academically and in social settings. If a child struggles academically and socially, they are then at risk for having low self-esteem. It is best to address children's speech -language challenges when they are first identified so that early intervention can begin.
