What are the signs that show my child may need help from an Occupational therapist?

10 Sensory Redflags:

1. Avoiding OR seeking out messy activities, textures, noises to the point that it impacts participation in typical play or activity.

2. Demonstrating poor safety awareness: climbing excessively and/or jumping from furniture.

3. Appearing to have poor body awareness: seeming to have an abnormally high pain tolerance, bumping into furniture often, or difficulting with personal space.

4. Excessively mouthing and/or smelling non-food items.

5. Excessively seeking out spinning or rocking movement to the point that it impacts participation in typical play or activity.

6. Displaying fear or avoidance of playground equipment (swing, slide).

7. Lack of appropriately play or engage with toys (ie lining up toys, dumping and running, repetitive pressing of buttons)

8. Frequently falling or losing balance.

9. Laying, leaning or propping body against others or furniture.

10. Avoiding certain foods or limiting diet by texture and/or flavors.
