What does Occupational therapy look like for infants?

Occupational therapy for infants is typically focused on grasping/reaching skills, feeding, visual tracking, motor skills and beginner play skills. These areas would be targeted by incorporating opportunities for practice and positioning into that child's daily routine with the input of the family. Daily routines for an infant would likely include diaper changes, meal times, floor time, nap/sleep time and play time. The OT would work with the family (in clinic, in home, in daycare or virtually) to develop goal areas that are important to the child and family. Weekly sessions would include follow up from the previous session and home program as well as working on developing new strategies/activities to continue to make progress toward the goal areas the family has established.
