Activity Steps:

  1. Tell your kids that you are going to have a scavenger hunt in your household. It may help to have a written list.
  2. Tell your children to find different items throughout the house based on different clues. For example, you could tell them to find:
    • Two things that make you happy
    • Your favorite picture of the family
    • Something that is your favorite color
    • Two things you're grateful for
    • Two things that help you feel calm
    • Something that helps you feel safe
    • Something that use everyday
    • Your favorite place in your house

Activity Tips

  • Be creative! Come up with as many as clues or comfort items as you can!
  • Do the scavenger hunt with your child and share objects that are important to you in the household.
  • Ask open ended questions that spark conversation. Examples include, "Why do you feel grateful for your teddy bear?" "Tell me about a time that your slime helped you calm down."
  • Set ground rules before the scavenger hunt. If you think it may be needed, set a time limit to find each object. Review taking turns when we talk about our object.
  • If your kids can handle it, make it a fun race! Who can find the items faster?
