Parent Education Night Series

Celebrated Pediatric Therapy Center Extends Support to Local Non-Patient Families with Parent Education Night Series Asheville, NC – Parenting is deeply rewarding, but it does come with its share of challenges. Asheville area parents will soon have an excellent resource to help them work through some of their top concerns about their kids’ social and emotional well-being.

Carolina Pediatric Therapy announced today that, beginning this October, they will be hosting Parent Education Nights across the year. During each Parent Education Night, seasoned Carolina Pediatric Therapy’s behavioral health experts will offer parents education and tools to manage some of the most common and most challenging behavioral and emotional issues their children may face as they develop.

Carolina Pediatric Therapy has deep roots in Asheville and the surrounding community. For over 15 years, they have been offering in-home, clinic-based, and community-based support and care for children and their families. The collaborative team offers a wide range of therapeutic treatment options, integrating the specialized disciplines of speech-language, occupational, physical therapy, with behavioral health services of psychology, counseling, and social work. They feature a number of highly-skilled clinicians who are well-versed in every type of behavioral issue. “Carolina Pediatric Therapy is always looking for new ways to further serve local families,” says Catherine Funk, Ph.D. of Carolina Pediatric Therapy. “That’s why we are so excited to offer Parent Education Nights. It’s a way for us to go beyond the patients we see every day, and extend extra support and knowledge to anyone in the community who is interested. Parents will have access to behavioral health therapists who have specific training in various presenting challenges. They’ll get helpful tips and strategies that they can implement right away. And they’ll get their most pressing behavioral health questions answered, in a warm, caring, non-judgmental atmosphere.”

Your Child and School Stress

The first Parent Education Night will be held at Carolina Pediatric Therapy’s Asheville clinic location, at 9 W Summit Avenue, on Monday, October 23rd, from 6 to 7 PM. The topic will be “Your Child and School Stress.” Parent Education nights addressing the same topic will also be held at the clinic’s Hendersonville location on November 6th, and at its Brevard location on November 13th. “Now that we are entrenched in the school year, we wanted to address the stress and anxiety that children may face in their daily lives as they adjust to new challenges and expectations related to school,” says Dr. Funk. “Parents will learn how to identify stress in their children, and how to give them proven coping strategies that will empower them and help them succeed in managing both school and life.”

My clinical experience with school age children and teens has shown me that stress can impact individuals in all areas of their lives. Children and teens are struggling more than ever with stress. It excites me to be able to share evidence-based tools with our community in order to address this significant need. My background in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy has given me the opportunity to empower individuals to overcome their anxiety and cope with the complex situations life presents. I am hopeful that parents will be able to utilize these same tools to empower their own children. ~ Emma Cook, MSW, LCSWA

To ensure that parents are able to attend, childcare will be provided for the event. Guests will also be treated to light refreshments. Future Parent Education Nights will address a variety of different topics, and will be held at various Carolina Pediatric Therapy locations.
